MEDIA MINDS
About PROJECT
Media Minds is an Open Semester on Media Literacy taking place in Lisbon and Oeiras.

The initiative promotes media and digital literacy among teachers, parents, and children through open events, creative learning tools, and collaborations with schools and NGOs. It builds a community that learns to think critically, recognize misinformation, and use digital tools responsibly.
GOAL
To equip educators and families with practical methods and innovative tools that help young people become informed, critical, and creative media users.
Who is our project for?

MEDIA LITERACY TOOLBOX

What is it?
Media Literacy toolbox is designed to support educators, facilitators, and trainers in delivering sessions on media literacy and digital safety.
The cards include ready-to-use activities, examples, and practical tips. They can be used to run a lesson, a workshop, or a group discussion. The materials are suitable for working with young people and adults and do not require long or complex preparation.

The set focuses on three key topics of today’s digital world
Fact-checking
Developing the ability to check information, tell facts from opinions, and recognise manipulation.
Online safety
Understanding digital risks, protecting personal data, and learning basic rules for safe and responsible online behaviour.
Cyberbullying
Learning how to recognise bullying, understand the different roles involved, respond appropriately, and support those who are being targeted.
How to use the cards?
To work with the set, follow these simple steps:

Step 1. Choose the topic that is most relevant for your group: fact-checking, online safety, or responding to cyberbullying.

Step 2. Select a card with an activity.
Each card includes:
• the topic (for example, Photo verification, Phishing, Roles in bullying)
• the learning outcome (what participants will gain)
• an age recommendation (for example, 8+, 12+, 14+)
• a ready-made activity or a suggested session outline

Step 3. Prepare and run the session. Use the card as a guide. Deliver the suggested activity, add your own examples if needed, and encourage discussion through follow-up questions.

Step 4. Combine cards where appropriate. Cards can be used on their own for short sessions or combined for a deeper exploration of the topic. We recommend starting with the basic themes and moving on to more complex ones as the group’s confidence and understanding grow.

Save time on preparation and focus on delivering engaging and meaningful sessions.
